Why I’m running a nonpartisan campaign for King County Council: I’m leading with my values.
When attending community forums, knocking on doors, and chatting over cups of coffee with community leaders, I’m often asked, 'Are you a Democrat or a Republican?'
And I understand why. It’s how we’ve been taught to sort politics. Plus, political party affiliation is a tool voters sometimes use to understand a candidate’s stance on policy topics.
But after living and serving in this community for so long, my leadership is based on my foundational values first. Just as I had support from nonpartisan groups and leaders when I was elected to the Kent School Board, I am committed to nonpartisanship in my campaign for King County Council.
Some might worry that not aligning with a specific political party is some sort of strategy. That’s why I take the time to explain that, instead, it’s actually how my deep commitment to honesty, accountability, and transparency show up.
I wish to demonstrate my deep respect to every community member of District 7 by taking the time to explain, in very deep detail, my record, my policy philosophies, and my core commitments. You have the right to know where your candidates and elected officials stand, and I will never shy away from any question.
At the same time, I am committed to lead with humility. If any policy detail is unknown to me, I never pretend to have all the answers. Instead, I will always listen, learn, and lead with integrity.
Another way my commitment to the community shows up is in my support for term limits. In our ever-changing communities, leadership must stay in close touch with the people’s priorities. When serving on the Kent School Board, I made a pledge to honor term limits and stepped aside for new leadership after two terms. I pledge to be honest and confront the status quo when it’s not working for our communities.
I am not seeking endorsements from political organizations or politicians. Instead, I’ve earned support from people who’ve worked with me and seen me show up for our communities. Their statements are on this website, and I’m proud of every single one.
This campaign is about trust, results, and putting people first—especially in the neighborhoods that have been overlooked for too long in District 7.
I hope to earn your vote. Thank you.
